About us

The Romaversitas is the training and scholarship program of Roma youngsters in higher education. The Romaversitas Foundation has been acting as a funder of university and college studens for fourteen years. We not only give scholarships and various services, but also try to create space for vibrant social life.

We believe that for these mostly highly disadvantaged young people financial support is not sufficient; a competence improving, disadvantage compensing training program is also needed for them to successfully complete their education and gain knowledge to be competitive in the labor market.

For the majority of the students the scholarship itself is tremendous help. Thanks to the thirty thousand forints per month they have to work less and may devote more time for academic studies and professional development.

However, from the beginning we strive not to - only or mainly - act as a mere scholarship-center, but also as a community where everyone can find one’s place. Our goal is that our students would become well-balanced, identity-taking, responsible professionals.

The Foundation has a two-step process of student selection. Once selected, the young scholar gains legal status until graduation or termination of their membership.

The student’s academic progress is constantly monitored. Having a less-then-middle-class academic record or failing to comply ones obligations for the Romaversitas training program may cause scholarship-withdrawal or even membership-termination.

The Romaversitas Foundation supports 50 young people in the 2010-2011 academic year from Pécs to Szeged including thirty-seven majors ranging from mechatronics engineering through medicine to social work.
